Mike Davis vs Mason Jones Betting Preview, Odds, Picks (20-Jan)
One of the most intriguing fights of the UFC Fight Night: Chiesa vs Magny is the one with Mike “Beast Boy” Davis and Mason “The Dragon” Jones. The Davis vs Jones fight is going to be Dragon’s UFC debut, which is where he got after some impressive performances in Cage Warriors, such as the one at CW116 when he won the Welterweight Title.
Mason Jones is entering the UFC with two Cage Warriors championship belts in his possession. Apart from the Welterweight belt, he also holds the CW Lightweight Championship belt. It’s needless to say that The Dragon would love to add a UFC belt to the collection, but the road to the title is very, very long.
Of course, every road starts with a single step, and in this case, the first step is the Mike Davis vs Mason Jones fight on January 20.

Mike Davis vs Mason Jones Preview
Mason Jones is an undefeated MMA fighter with 10 wins in his professional career. He also holds two world titles. However, all those achievements, the Welshman achieved while fighting for Cage Warriors and other promotions, which all are nowhere near the Ultimate fighting Championship (UFC).
His debut in the most elite fighting promotion happens this month when he faces off with Mike Davies. The American fighter might not be a UFC veteran, but he definitely has more experience that his opponent.
Beast Boy is three years older than the Dragon and has fought two UFC fights already. He lost on his debut to Gilbert Burns (submission) but then rebounded against Thomas Gifford (knockout) a few months later.
The fight with Gifford was Davis’ last trip to the Octagon. Some 15 months later, he’s going back into the ring to take on a fighter who’s fought two Cage Warriors fights in 2020.

Mason Jones Hoping to Follow Conor McGregor’s Footsteps
After beating Adam Proctor at Cage Warriors and winning the CW Welterweight Championship, Mason Jones became the first fighter to simultaneously hold two CW titles. The man who did the same previously is no one other than MMA legend Conor McGregor.
The obvious next step for the Welsh fighter was to sign with the UFC, which he did. He’s making his debut in January, less than four months since his last fight. He certainly isn’t rusty, but he did have to go through a weight-loss process in order to prepare for the Davis vs Jones fight.
The thing is that The Dragon’s most recent fight was a Welterweight bout. On the weigh-ins prior to that fight, Jones weighed 169.4 lbs. Losing one stone in four months is not too difficult, especially when one’s got motivation – and what’s better motivation than fighting in the UFC?
Now, being lighter, Mason Jones will probably be even quicker than before, which is just one in a series of advantages he has over Mike Davis. This begs the question of why is Beast Boy still the favorite in the Davis vs Jones fight?
Odds Moving in Favor of the Welsh Dragon
Recently, Mason Jones was named the Cage Warrior fighter of the year by MMA-prospects, which was just one of many accolades he received in 2020. For many, he’s the next big thing in the UFC, and one of the UK fighters with a very bright future ahead.
From the beginning of his professional career until very, very recently, Mason Jones was fighting in the UK. In fact, all the events he took part in so far took place either in England or Wales. This explains why the Dragon is not very well known outside the island.
The fact is that most UFC fans don’t know much about Jones. As a result, many MMA Futures bets are placed on his opponent, who’s fought two UFC fights so far. Still, experience does not equal quality. At least, not when it comes to the Mike Davis vs Mason Jones fight.
Davis vs Jones Prediction
Betting odds are saying that Davis is the favorite, but the odds do not reflect true probability. Everyone from the FatCatBet believes the chance of each fighter currently stands at around 50%. This means that backing Mason Jones would be a sort of value bet.
Furthermore, knowing that the Welshman is super-motivated to win his first-ever UFC fight, we feel very tempted to back him. And for those who feel really adventurous, our MMA Prop suggestion is to back Mason Jones to win by knockout.
