Outrights/Futures

Outright bets a.k.a. future bets are similar to regular types of bets in the sense that you can find them in almost all sportsbooks. The difference between outrights and regular pre-match bets is that the outrights aren’t going to happen any time soon.

Regular bets get their outcomes known in a matter of days. That’s not the case with futures, which, as their name suggests will play out in the future. So, how long is that period?

It depends on the outright bet, but generally speaking, the outcome of an outright bet is not known for at least a couple of weeks from the moment of betting.

Because their outcome is not going to be known for a relatively long time, the outright bets usually come at much, much longer odds than their “ordinary” counterparts.

For example, if you were to bet on Liverpool winning the Premier League in January 2020, you would get much shorter odds than if you did it before the start 2019-20 season. The reason is obvious – in January, Liverpool has already cemented itself as the key favorite for winning the title. But before the start of the season, Manchester City was the main candidate.
