Manchester City vs Tottenham Betting Preview (Saturday, August 14)
The 2021-22 season of the Premier League kicks off this weekend. The most interesting game of Round 1 is the clash happening on Sunday evening. It’s the Manchester City vs. Tottenham game I’m talking about.
Not only is this game interesting, but it also comes with great money-making potential. To see what I’m talking about, just keep on reading!
Manchester City to Beat Tottenham 1.55
The biggest news of the Premier League transfer window is the arrival of Jack Grealish to Manchester City. The former Aston Villa midfielder was one of the best England players at the 2020 Euros, which put him on Pep Guardiola’s radar.
The Man City boss got what he wanted, but for that, they had to splash almost $140 million. By paying for Grealish’s contract, Man City broke the record for the highest fee in the history of English soccer.
It does sound like a lot of money, but the Sky Blues are no strangers to making big-money purchases. To see what I mean, check out the list the highest transfer fees this team’s paid in its 141-years-long history:
- Jack Grealish $140M
- Kevin De Bruyne $90M
- Ruben Dias $80M
- Riyad Mahrez $80M
- Joao Cancelo $76M
- Aymeric Laporte $76M
- Raheem Sterling $75M
- Rodri $74M
- Benjamin Mendy $65M
- John Stones $65M
All of the players in that list are still members of the Manchester City squad. Plus, the club management is looking to make another big-money deal before the end of the summer transfer window. They want to sign Tottenham’s best player, Harry Kane.
It’s reported that Manchester City will have to pay more than $200 million for his signature. However, they seem to be okay with it. And he seems to be craving that transfer!
The Tottenham captain is reportedly dissatisfied with the way the club is run, with his biggest worry being the lack of trophies. Some reports suggest he’d like to leave the club ASAP, even before the Tottenham vs. Manchester City game.
Best Parlay for the First Round of the Premier League
- Manchester City to Beat Tottenham (1.55)
- Arsenal to beat Brentford (1.83)
- Burnley vs. Brighton under 2.5 goals (1.57)
- Leicester City to beat Wolves (1.60)
- Aston Villa to beat Watford (2.15)
- West Ham to beat Newcastle (2.15)
The odds on this parlay are 32.93, meaning that on a $10 bet, you can make a profit of almost $220. Sounds good, but how sure this parlay bet actually is? Well, let me explain…
The Gunners don’t look very strong this season, but at least they’re better than the Bees. It’s not going to be an easy game, but I do expect Arsenal to win.
Burnley and Brighton are two teams famous for playing a rigid style of soccer that’s focused on defending. Only three of their past ten meetings saw more than 2.5 goals, which is why I recommend betting on “under.”
The Premier League champion from 2016 is a strong favorite against Wolverhampton. It’s not just that Leicester City is a good team, but it’s also because Wolves aren’t very good this season. Plus, the team from Wolverhampton also has a new coach in Bruno Lage, who left Benfica after going 2-13 – the team’s worst record since 2001.
Jack Grealish is no longer in Birmingham, but Aston Villa has used the transfer money to make some interesting purchases. Ex-Bayer Leverkusen winger Leo Bailey has arrived and so has Danny Ings from Southampton. With those players in, the Villans definitely look capable of winning in the first round.
Finally, I can also see West Ham beating Newcastle. Jesse Lingard, their standout player in the second half of the 2020-21 season is no longer in the club, but the Hammers are still good enough to beat the Magpies.
