English soccer legend, David Beckham, is one of the owners of a brand-new MLS franchise called Inter Miami. The question is for how long. There are some rumors suggesting that David Beckham is to sell Inter Miami by the end of the year.

Beckham is undoubtedly the most famous person to be involved with Inter Miami, but he’s not the only person involved in this project. Actually, Becks owns only 10% of the shares of the club officially called Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami, which started its MLS adventure this year.

The question is whether he considers Inter Miami a long-term project or just another investment. Considering that the Beckham family lives in London, many believe that he’s not going to invest too much of his time and energy into making Inter Miami an MLS heavyweight.

Social Media Rumors

Months before the start of Inter Miami’s inaugural season, some rumors started spreading on social media. Those rumors were backed by some speculative news headlines that suggested David Beckham was to sell his Inter Miami shares.

However, that proved to be fake news. The spokesperson for Inter Miami released a statement putting an end to discussion.

As it became apparent, Inter Miami’s sportsperson was telling the truth. David Beckham remained one of the owners of this club, but for how long?

Knowing that this isn’t the only business David Beckham has invested, the question remains whether he’ll be willing to stick to it if the club doesn’t prove to be successful in its debut season.

Coronavirus Puts a Stop to MLS Season

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, practically all the major sports have been put on hold. In the United States, all major leagues are suspended at the moment of writing. This includes the Major League Soccer (MLS) where Inter Miami is competing.

With no games to play, Inter Miami isn’t making any revenue from TV rights, sponsorship deals, and fans’ attendances. In addition, the pandemic is also causing blows to other investments made by the Beckham family, so they might decide to cut their expenses by ditching their MLS franchise. Can this happen?

David Beckham’s Business Ventures

David Beckham and his family own a company called DB Ventures, which, in turn, owns a number of brands from all sorts of industries. The group has invested in things like fashion products, cosmetics, and so on.

And since recently, the company is also in the possession of shares of an MLS franchise. Beckham’s investment group owns one-tenth of the shares, which makes them minority shareholders. The fact that other shareholders own 90% of the club suggests that Beckham’s role in the club is not that important.

However, that’s not totally true. If it weren’t for David Beckham, Inter Miami would probably never get to become an MLS club.

David Beckham: The Father of Inter Miami

When he signed for LA Galaxy in 2007, one of the clauses in his contract was that he would be able to launch an MLS franchise if he pleases. Thirteen years have passed since the deal was made and Beckham has made it happen.

Not only was he responsible for getting the MLS license for Inter Miami, but his company DB Ventures also invested a big sum to turn this club into a title contender. The club needed a lot of money to create a formidable first-team squad, which meant that they had to spend millions on transfer fees.

And they did spend millions, bringing in players such as Jorge Figal, Julian Carranza, and Matias Pellegrini.

Apart from investing in new signings, the Inter Miami board of directors has also decided to invest millions in building a new stadium, a 25,000-seater called Miami Freedom Park which is scheduled to open in 2022.

Will David Beckham Sell Inter Miami in 2020?

The answer to this question is NO! Not only did he invest a lot of money in this project, but the legendary midfielder has also invested his time and reputation. And considering that the future of this team looks very bright, it wouldn’t be a wise choice to sell it.

Unless, of course, some big-money offer comes Beckham’s way. Still, even if that happens, Beckham will probably want to wait a while longer and see how his team performs.

Betting on this market is possible at those bookmakers that offer prop bets. David Beckham props are popular among bettors, which is why the chances that one such proposition would be accepted are pretty decent.
