Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Prediction 3-Oct (Premier League)
Although it’s not the biggest of London Derbies, Chelsea vs Crystal Palace is a big rivalry, especially in the 2020-21 season. The reason is that the Eagles have been playing pretty well since the start of the new Premier League season, which hasn’t been the case with the Blues, who have drawn with WBA last weekend.
Chelsea need to get back in a winning form if they want to challenge the title, which, considering how many signings they’ve made over the summer, is not too crazy of a thought. Speaking of their new players, some of them have been fantastic, some, not so much.
What to Think of Silva’s Chelsea Debut?
Thiago Silva, the former captain of PSG, was brought to Chelsea to improve this team’s leaky defense. Here’s an interesting fact for stats betting fans – last season, Chelsea was the worst team in the top 10 regarding defense, with more goals allowed than any other team from the top half of the table. They conceded 54 goals in 2019-20.
Silva’s arrival was supposed to improve that, but Chelsea seem to be on the road of achieving an even worse feat. With 6 goals conceded in three rounds, it seems they could finish this season with an even worse defensive record than the last.
Speaking of Silva, he had a terrible debut in Chelsea’s jersey. His slip led to one of WBA’s goals last weekend. In the same game, we also saw the Chelsea goalie Wilfredo Caballero making many errors. If you’re wondering why he’s between the posts instead of the world’s most expensive goalkeeper Kepa, it’s because the Spaniard has been even more error-prone. Still, we might see him returning to the first XI in the game against Crystal Palace.
Other New Signings Ready to Shine
Thiago Silva hasn’t made a great debut, but other new signings have been pretty decent since their arrival to Chelsea. Kai Havertz has been really impressive, with a hat-trick in the Carabao Cup, as well as an assist in the game against WBA.
His fellow German, Timo Werner has also been decent. Even though he’s still without a single goal to his name, we did see him performing very well. It’s just a matter of time when he’ll start to shine, it appears.
Another big signing, Hakim Ziyech is ready to make his Chelsea debut soon. He was struggling with an injury but could be ready to play a significant role in the game against Crystal Palace. Still, even without him in the squad, Frank Lampard has plenty of players to choose from. In fact, three homegrown Chelsea players were responsible for getting this team a point in the WBA game.
After being 3-0 down at the half time, they managed to come back and grab themselves a 3-3 draw. The scorers were Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Tammy Abraham. All these players are the products of Chelsea’s youth academy.
Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Prediction
That comeback against WBA has certainly given Chelsea players a big morale-boost for the next Saturday. Another reason why they should feel confident is that they have a fantastic record against Crystal Palace, with 5 wins in their previous 5 meetings.
