Short Super Bowl 55 Preview

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in the Super Bowl 55 mostly thanks to their quarterback, Tom Brady. In his first season out of the New England Patriots, Brady led the team to winning the National Football Conference. They did it by beating the Green Bay Packers 31-26, in a game which they entered as +155 underdogs.

That game saw Brady passing for three touchdowns, thus getting to seven TDs in the postseason. He did get three of his passes intercepted, as well as got sacked once. That said, the win in the Conference final obviously wasn’t only thanks to him – the Bucs defense playing a super-important role.

In fact, the Buccaneers have been sensational in the defense this entire season. In fact, they conceded 30+ points only in one game – against the Saints back in September. They got their revenge in 2021 when they beat New Orleans in the semifinal of the NFC.

Still, in 2020-21, they still haven’t played against the Kansas City Chiefs, arguably the best team in the league, especially when the offense is concerned. In the regular season, they scored a total of 473 points in 16 games. And in the two games in the postseason, the Chiefs scored 60 points.

The man in the spotlight is Patrick Mahomes II, the man who won the MVP award in the previous Super Bowl. This guy’s been sensational this season, with 38 touchdowns in total and 4740 passing yards.

Speaking of Mahomes, he made his return from an injury in the AFC Final. Although he wasn’t 100% fit, he went on the field and performed great. We can only assume he’ll do even better in the Super Bowl 55, now that his injury is a thing of the past.

It’s Defense That Matters in Super Bowl 55

Sure, the Super Bowl 55 will be a clash of the two arguably best quarterbacks in the NFL. Which team manages to outsmart the rival quarterback is going to win the game – it’s as simple as that.

The good news for the Chiefs fans is that their defense seems to be improving all the time. In the AFC Championship game last Sunday, we saw defensive end Frank Clark sacking Bills QB Josh Allen for a loss of 10 yards. It happened not just once but two times, effectively saving the Chiefs from too much stress in the last quarter.

Something similar happened in the NFC Championship game, in which the Bucs defense stopped the #1 NFL MVP favorite, Aaron Rodgers. Even though Rodgers did well, his offensive teammates were outclassed by Tampa’s defense. For that reason, there’s now speculation that Rodgers might be on his way away from Green Bay.

Players to Watch: Tyreek Hill and Antonio Brown

Although Travis Kelce is the Chiefs leader when receiving yards are concerned, it’s Tyreek Hill who’s scored the most touchdowns (15 passing TDs and 2 rushing TDs). This guy’s been nothing short of sensational, whose speed and agility could cause serious problems to the Bucs defense – Tyreek Hill is the 4th fastest NFL player with a top speed of 21.91 mph.

On the other end, there’s Antonio Brown. Although he’s not the Bucs leader in any aspect, his game did improve a lot in the postseason. The man who’s thought of as one of the best wide receivers in the last decade. He was silent in 2020, but in 2021, he’s raging.
